IT’S BACK! End of the World Bar – Bimini, Bahamas

What do you do when you’ve reached the end of the world? Have a cold drink, of course. On the Bahamian island of North Bimini sits Alice Town, home of the new and improved, self proclaimed, end of the road. The legendary End of the World Bar.

When you get here, you may think you’re in the wrong place, it’s just a waterfront shack built of plywood with sand floors and graffiti everywhere. The bar had been closed for sometime and was just reopened on April 14th and hopes to capture it’s lost glory.

When I say graffiti, I mean hand written messages from the thousands of people that have stopped in for a Goombay Smash and told their tall tales about the one that got away. The old End of the World bar was also covered in women’s bras and panties. Trashy? I say perfect decor for a Caribbean dive bar.

Here is a photo of the bar before the reopening.

During the remodeling of the bar, every piece of signature covered wall that could be saved was, and then reused. All of the women’s under garment decorations have been removed, but they hope the tradition will continue and a new collection will start.

More Artwork Being Added

The End of the World bar didn’t look like much back in the day, it hadbeen around for approximately 40 years and has had its share of celebrity guests including Hemingway. More recently, tight end for the New Orleans Saints, Jeremy Shockey decided to stop by for the bars reopening.

End of the World serves strong rum drinks and cold Kalik beer. Morning, noon and night, it’s a favorite hangout for Bahamians and knowledgeable tourists.

I spoke with Sandra Fieger, who works at the End of the World and was part of the reopening. Sarah said, “We renovated, but saved as many of the signature walls as we could, expanded the kitchen, the bar, the seating capacity, extended the roof, repaired the deck, replaced all the electrical, plumbing, painted, and tarted her up for the debauchery to come.”

If you find yourself, a Castaway on the island of Bimini, toss out your anchor at the End of the World. The beer will be cold, the atmosphere friendly and frivolous. Sand floor, underwear hanging from the ceiling, rum, Kalik, music, and good friend…everything you can ask for out of an unassuming Caribbean beach bar.

Bringing back the ambiance that was End of The World. Open now at the south end of North Bimini.

If you have any stories of the old End of the World bar we would love to hear them.

Cheers Castaways,

I remember the old bar with all the stinking underwear hanging from the ceiling and a pile of conch shells out the back. I was also out there when they were rebuilding last time and the bar was out in the open by the roadside.

This is way too darned civilised but it still looks fun. Time to go back 🙂

Well I spent many nights there especially Wednesday evenings when we of Blackbeards Charters came in for port night. We would grill steaks at Weeches dock for our pasengers clean up the boat and go drinking. Sarah makes the best Conch salad and fritters on the island. I used to bring her some nice stuff to help out. I loved drinking Kalik Extra and Heineken there. Stumbled out drunk many times. I had a few pairs of boxers hanging there along with some very drunk signatures. I loved that place and need to come back and visit.

I know I was there (many times) and I’ve been told I had a great time but unfortunately the memories end there! It was ~1983. A great bar with fun staff (I’ve been told). Glad to hear it is reborn again! Best of luck-lucking forward to a return visit to fess up to past evil deeds written on the walls! Blackbeards Charters Divemaster-Morning Star.

Got elegantly blasted with friends at End of the World early ’83. The last of several visits. Have wonderful memories of the Compleat Angler and Ossie Brown (RIP). He, murdered; Julian Brown dies in the blazing remains of the hotel? WTF?

Thank god! had my first rum punch there with friends back in the late 90’s.. dancing on the out side tables was what I remember. We spent the night at the Compleat Angler and I do recall walking from the End of the world bar back to the Compleat Angler passing the islands only hooker, OMG we made sure the door was locked in our room. Such a great place and such great people. Back then we got a gold cart and drove as far as we could to the north end of the island and spent the day on the beach and NEVER saw another person.. Paradise…. My other fav. Island in the Bahamas is Cat Island..

Used to drink in the end of the world bar in October 1991 when I worked aboard the Seascape daily cruise ship out of Fort Lauderdale. Happy days.

Was there many times- 1st was in ’78. Would stay at Browns Marina next door. Neville would always ask if we wanted the regular or deluxe room. The rooms were the same- the deluxe just had something taped to the bottom of the dresser drawer. Lol

  13. Mark September 30, 2015 at 7:34 pm

Left many business cards on the walls and assorted girlfriend garments on the ceiling!

In the 1960s, new York congressman Adam Clayton Powell used to hang at the End Of The World Bar and play dominoes with the locals. One day, after he left, my then wife slipped his empty “Saint Pauli Girl” drink glass into her purse. Other tourists offered her up to 50 dollars for it, but she wouldn’t give it up.
