Do you have any summer travel plans that involve the Caribbean? May is generally the start of 0ff- or slow-season in the islands. You’ll find great deals on hotels and charters, unfortunately I haven’t seen much of a dip in airfare prices. You would think that will the fall in oil and gas prices, that airfares would fall as well. Well they haven’t. A couple weeks ago I bought two tickets to St. Thomas for May and they were the most I’ve ever paid. That does not make me a happy Castaway. Come on airlines, help us island hoppers out!
Sorry just a little rant. Enjoy this week’s weekly wrap up!
Caribbean Weekly Wrap Up
Recipe for National Dish of Jamaica – Ackee & Saltfish: For the Ackee & Saltfish recipe, we turn to Jamaican sisters Suzanne Rousseau and Michelle Rousseau, who are former restaurateurs and award-winning caterers. They are now producers and culinary hostesses for the web series “Island Potluck” which was created in conjunction with the Jamaica Tourist Board. –Story by Caribbean & Co.
A Country Music Festival in the Caribbean: The US Virgin Island of St John is no stranger to the country music world, in large part due to its frequent references by music star Kenny Chesney. Vibrant beauty of Cuba that has tourists flocking in droves: When I first visited Cuba, I flew from London but now as I live in Los Angeles there are no direct flights so I had to fly via Panama into Havana. Excitingly at the end of last year, American Airlines announced that they will start flying directly from Los Angeles in the coming months as US travel restrictions to Cuba have become more relaxed after a 52 year travel ban. –Story by DailyMail.com
See The Virgin Gorda Baths From The Air: Drones have brought us island lovers some amazing shots of our favorite places, but this video of The Baths of Virgin Gorda in the BVI by The St. John Experience App is one of the best I’ve seen. Take a look.
The Best Sunset Cruise in St Croix: Jolly Mon, Lyric’s 63-foot catamaran, was our transport for the evening, taking us from Frederiksted’s pier. Formerly owned by a Key West drug smuggler; seized by the US government; sold at auction; and eventually ending up in the US Virgin Islands, the 49-passenger craft has had quite a journey. But certainly not as magical as ours turned out to be that evening. –Story by Caribbean Journal
