Ft. Myers Beach is my local stomping ground. We boat around it, make it our home on beach days, and even hit the town at night at its many bars and restaurants. The island has a great old Florida, almost Key West vibe to it, and I think that’s why we love it so much.
Last Saturday we spent the day on Ft. Myers Beach for Erin’s birthday. We posted up on the sand to the right of The Cottage and spent the day relaxing in the water and sipping on rum runners. When it came time to figure out where we wanted to have dinner, their was really only one choice…Nervous Nellies.
Nervous Nellies is becoming our go to place when we want to have a nice relaxing meal on Ft. Myers Beach. The place really has it all.
Nervous Nellies sits on the water below the Ft. Myers Beach bridge on the island side. They have a large dock if you’d like to visit by boat and plenty of parking if by car. They’re still working on the airstrip.
Nellies has a large indoor dinning room if you’re looking to beat the heat. Outside is where I call home though. They boast a huge outdoor patio, with tables sitting right on the dock so you can enjoy your meal and watch the boats coast by. Nellies also has an upstairs bar and patio that they call Ugly’s Bar, and it stays open late if you’re looking to make the party last.
Sounds like a cool place right, well I haven’t even gotten to the good stuff yet. When I think about Nervous Nellies two things pop into my bald head, the menu and the music.
The menu is huge! You almost get lost in it, and deciding what to stuff in your face is nearly impossible. They have everything from Drunken Devil Wings and Cast Iron Skillet Seared Sesame Tuna, to Southern Fried Catfish and Crabmeat Stuffed Shrimp and Jump Scallop Scampi. I’m a sucker for the Gumbo though, and consistently funnel its tastiness into my mouth. What’s that Buffett song…ah yes, “I will play for Gumbo”. After one bite of this stuff you’ll be looking to take up guitar lessons, it’s that good.
Saturday, Erin and I split the Ragin Cajin Chicken & Sausage Quesadillas and a The Nervous Nelly. What’s the Nervous Nelly? I’m glad you asked! It’s a swimming pool sized glass of fruit juices and Seven Tiki rum. We saw one of these walk by our table and instantly knew one had our name on it.
Nervous Nellies always has great bands playing, although Saturday’s band was a little to Fleetwood Mac for my taste. The great part about the entertainment is that they perform outside, right on the dock. It’s an amazing setting and you can’t help but feel like you’re on vacation. Once the dinner crowd dies out, the music is then moved upstairs to Ugly’s Bar so you can dance away the night.
If you live in the Southwest Florida area or are planning to visit, I definitely recommend and stop at Nervous Nellies. It’s not a Caribbean Beach Bar that I normally write about on Tuesdays, but it’s a little slice of waterfront paradise right here Florida.
Let me know if you’ve been to Nervous Nellies and what you thought.
