After one sip, you’ll be rolling around in the sand.

Sex on the Beach? Yes please! Is this drink as good as the name advertises? I’m not sure, that’s a lot to live up to. This seductive little libation is popular at bars everywhere, so maybe there is something to that name. I’m not the biggest fan of the Sex on the Beach (peach schnapps makes me quiver), but after a few cold Coronas I’m liable to do things I shouldn’t.

Sex on the Beach Recipe

  • 1 1/2 oz vodka
  • 1/2 oz peach schnapps
  • 2 oz cranberry juice
  • 2 oz orange juice

Pour all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice cubes. Shake well. Strain into a highball glass. Garnish with the orange slice and maraschino cherry. Raise glass and toast.

The History of the Beverage

A variety of stories have been attributed to the invention of this drink. One account states that in 1987, the drink was created in response to a contest, which was carried out to highlight and sell peach schnapps. A bartender in Florida, was credited with devising the concoction, and naming it after the favorite Spring-break pastimes of visiting college students. The San Francisco Chronicle attributed the cocktail to a group of students, from the University of Vermont, in the early 1980s. Regardless of where, when and how the Sex on the Beach beverage came to be, it remains a popular drink with a catchy name.
