Jimmy Buffett’s “Surfing in a Hurricane” from Buffet Hotel

The sultan of escapism, Mr. Jimmy Buffett is releasing his new album tomorrow, “Buffet Hotel“.  I can’t wait to have it assault my eardrums over and over again.  Below are the lyrics to “Surfing in a Hurricane”.

I wanted to do a post on this song first because I have went through my fare share of these named storms here on the southwest coast of Florida and he’s right…the only time to catch waves is when there is a storm brewing out in vast expanse of the Gulf of Mexico.  I can’t say I’ve surfed in a hurricane but I have jet skied and that was quite the experience.  It’s either very very stupid or very very brave.  I’ll let you decide.

Here are the lyrics.  Let me know what you think.  Tell what your favorite line or verse is.

Surfing in a Hurricane

Originally from the Album: Buffet Hotel (2009)

Lyrics:
I feel like goin’ surfin’ in a hurricane
I feel like makin’ love in the pourin’ rain
I ain’t afraid of dyin’
I don’t need to explain
I feel like goin’ surfing in a hurricane.

We left the bar last night about half past eight
Down to the Alabama shore, not the Aloha state
This storm may turn, it was too late
And we ain’t the kind to evacuate
The impact zone is callin’ out my name

Sea monster night pulling nothing but pride or fear
St Christopher might not get our asses outta here
Flooded roads and trailer parks
And maybe a tornado lurkin’ in the dark
The perfect life to ride into eternity

I feel like goin’ surfin’ in a hurricane
I feel like makin’ love in the pouring rain
I ain’t afraid of dyin’
I don’t need to explain
I feel like goin’ surfin’ in a hurricane.

The waves were hard, the seas were high
Wicked thunderbolts flashed in my eyes
We swam out to the sandbar in the dark
Howling at the moon, cussin’ at the sharks

I made the first drop and my cojones were in my throat
Then the second wave launched me like a rocket
That’s all she wrote
Upside down, water on the brain
End on the bottom, but feelin’ no pain
Screamin’ like a deamon, paddlin’ out again

I feel like goin’ surfin’ in a hurricane
I feel like makin’ love in the pourin’ rain
I ain’t afraid of dyin’
There’s no need to explain
I feel like goin’ surfin’ in a hurricane

I feel like goin’ surfin’ in a hurricane
I feel like makin’ love in the pourin’ rain
I ain’t afraid of dyin’
I got no fear in my brain
I feel like goin’ surfin’ in a hurricane

I feel like goin’ surfin’ in a hurricane

Let’s paddle out boys
Killer surf …and I mean killer
Let’s go!

Surfin’ in a hurricane
Surfin’ in a hurricane

**************************

I like the…

Upside down, water on the brain
End on the bottom, but feelin’ no pain

Have had these huge storm waves toss me around like a cat in a dryer (to harsh? not a cat fan. :)).

Let me know what you think of the new album when you get it!

Cheers to the Salt Life,
